Shed and Garage Door Security: Hasp & Staple and Garage DefenderSee Also: If you intend to lock a building, a shed or a cabinet, you are likely to need either a hasp & staple or, for higher security, a pad bar. These are used in combination with a padlock. If you have a vulnerable garage with an up-and-over style door, the Garage Defender offers a simple and pragmatic improvement to your security. A pair of Asec door locking bolts allows you to secure the bottom corners of up-and-over doors, with access to the locks from inside or outside the door. More details on these products are below and are listed in our online shop.
Squire No. 8 Hasp & Staple: We recommend this item is used in conjunction with a Beef-Up Kit to increase the security level of both sides of the shed door. This is because the standard product from Squire includes a coach bolt for the hasp side, but no bolt for the staple side, so this can be vulnerable to being prised away from the woodwork. The Beef-Up Kit provides a selection of bolts etc to help you bolt right through the door and frame such that it is no longer a case of just pulling out some woodscrews with a crowbar - the thief will find it much harder to pull off these fittings (the hinges, too) if they are all bolted through with a nut on the inside of the shed. There is more explanation on the Beef-Up Kit page. No. 8 Dimensions: Width - 54.2mm, Length - 216.0mm, Staple Diameter - 10.0mm, Staple Clearance - 25.0mm.
Secured by 2 high tensile bolts and locked in place with an anti-tamper solid-style lock, this product resists forcing of up-and-over doors - a common type of attack. Stop the thieves getting inside your garage! Width 260mm; height 140mm; depth 219mm (protrusion under door 60mm approx). Base plate 215mm x 80mm. Two drill bits are required to fit
this product (10mm or similar pilot hole followed by 16mm fixing hole). Drill bits NOT included. Beware that you may need to hire a heavy duty
(e.g. "SDS") drill. SDS-type drills use special SDS drill bits - be
careful to hire the right thing(s) if you do not have the equipment
Note: Not suitable for fitting on tarmac. Please contact us if you have tarmac outside your garage. Sold Secure Domestic Bronze. Made in Britain. Tight fitting doors: The fitting instructions mention that the back of the base plate can be removed as one option if there is insufficient clearance below the door for the base plate. If you adopt this option, note that you should still use both mounting bolts (there is a central mounting hole for this situation, whereas the outer holes would normally be used if clearance is not an issue). Available for shipping within the UK only.
These can be fitted to either side of the door, usually horizontally but vertical fitting is also possible if the door has a suitable surface. 3 keys are provided (special 4-sided keys). Easy DIY Fit - The following HSS drill bits will be required: 3.5mm, 8mm, and 11mm. In addition, either a 13mm or 17mm drill bit, either HSS (if fitting to a wooden door frame) or a masonry bit (if going into brickwork or concrete floor). The 17mm size is only required if you wish to use the bolt receiving sleeves. Optionally, a pop rivet gun and small rivets or small self-tappers (neither supplied) can be used to fit the escutcheon plates to metal doors. |
