Spike in Bike Thefts During Good Weather: Insurance company Aviva is warning that they see a 25% increase in bike thefts during the warm weather period as people take more chances with their security. BikeBiz reports: "Aviva research has found that two thirds of bike owners take unnecessary risks with their rides, with 13 per cent leaving it unlocked and unattended while running a brief errand, 12 per cent leaving it locked to a short post or bollard and 17 per cent leaving it unlocked but out of view." Take your security seriously and give the thief a bad day!

Squire ML2L Motorcycle Disc Lock Now Available: We are pleased to add the ML2L disc lock to our range. This fits a wide range of motorcycle brake discs and can also be used in other situations. It can be keyed-alike with other SS65CS/SS50CS/Urban Paramount locks, improving ease of use.

Anti-Pinch Pin Now Available with Protective End Cap: The Anti-Pinch Pin has been offered with heatshrink sleeving for some time and this offers some protection to delicate surfaces etc, but it doesn't give any covering for the very tip of the Pin, which could still cause damage if not handled with sufficient care. We have recently been able to source some close-fitting vinyl caps that push onto the tip of the Pin and help to give protection when the Pin is slid through an opening. One of these caps is now included in each order for heatshrink when purchased with a Pin. Beware, however, that this cap will not fit through the links on the Protector 19mm chain so it is more suited to the 16mm chain where it fits fine.

Protector 13mm Chain Now Available with Untouchable Lock: The Protector 13mm chain can be used with the innovative Untouchable lock and, in response to customer demand, we are now offering this as a discounted Package Deal.

New Web Server Now Live: We have upgraded to a new dedicated web server, significantly faster than the previous system and in a well-connected London data centre. This helps us to deliver reliability and high performance in our service.

Protector 19mm Chain Selected by the MoD: We are proud that the UK Ministry of Defence has purchased a large number of our Protector 19mm chains with our modified Squire SS65CS locks for some very demanding security situations. They reported that they were "Extremely impressed with the superb quality of the chain". We are not at liberty to disclose more details...

Sold Secure Annual Audit: We put most of our products through their annual audit at Sold Secure and everything passed with flying colours, again. The products tested were: the Torc Series II Ground Anchor (continues to be the only ground anchor with Sold Secure Gold in every category, including the difficult-to-achieve Caravan Gold for the Concrete Floor fitting kit, which uses high-tech chemical resin fixings); the entire range of Protector chains (the 19mm and 16mm chains also continue to be the only ones with Gold status in every category); and the Shed Shackle.

BikeSafe Show 2010: Another Great Success! The excellent police BikeSafe motorcycle rider-training programme had its annual show this year at Sheffield Arena on 12th-13th June, with 12,000 visitors and 400 police-supervised ride-outs and a large take-up of advanced training courses. We found it was easy to be selling steel to Sheffield as so many of the visitors knew what we were talking about and could easily recognise good engineering, especially with a lot of our products being made with British steel! The London Cycling Campaign says last year 23,000 bicycles were reported stolen in London alone, up a massive 30 per cent on 2008 with estimates suggesting that between 40-60,000 more bike thefts went unreported. The LCC is also running a 60-second online survey of bike theft experiences to help lobbying of the authorities for greater police efforts and clamping down on channels for stolen bike sales.

We are pleased that the Shed Shackle has been selected for use in a prestigious housing development on the site of Manchester City’s former Maine Road stadium. Lowry Homes has been awarded £9.4m through the Homes and Communities Agency’s Kickstart scheme to support The Maine Place development in Moss Side. This project will help to rejuvenate the area with low-maintenance housing meeting the Secured By Design requirements.

Cycle Thefts are up to 50% Under-Reported According to the ETA - road.cc writes: According to latest figures from the Home Office, cycle theft rose 7% during the three months to September 2009, with 34,600 bikes reported stolen during that period, equivalent to more than 10,000 a month. But the ETA clams that this understates the true extent of bike theft as much as 50% and estimates that the true figure is nearer 20,000 a month, saying that many owners do not report the crime because they are uninsured and believe that there is little prospect of recovering their bike. ...The ETA’s advice is that to deter thieves, cyclists should buy a lock costing around 10% of the value of their bike, ensuring that it has a Sold Secure rating.

Shipping Update: We are now normally using the 24-hour (i.e. next working day) Parcelforce shipping service for shipments within the UK. There is no cost increase associated with this. We are also now offering a wider range of timed shipping services: next-working-day before noon; next-working-day before 10am; and next-working day *after* noon. The after noon service can be just as convenient as the before noon service - both should avoid you having to stay in all day waiting for a delivery.

We will soon be offering a shipping upgrade for UK orders that already qualify for free 24-hour shipping. This will allow you to pay just the extra cost associated with before-noon/after-noon etc services (just £3.16 in those cases, inc VAT at 17.5%).

What Mountain Bike Magazine Awards our Protector Chains 5/5 in Mammoth Lock Test: The Protector 13mm with the Squire SS50CS lock was the top-rated lock/chain on test, and the only one to resist hand and power tool attacks for the entire duration of the test. "This chain is awesome: the jaws of our croppers bent and blunted while the links showed almost no marking at all" "The toughest chain on test, and at a very reasonable price." The Protector 11mm chain with M50D lock was described as "Made of the same tough stuff, this is the best chain you can buy for under £50." (WhatMTB November 2009, p92)

Torc Ground Anchor Improved Series II Design: We have incorporated a further improvement to the Series II design to make it even harder for a thief to attack - the shackle is now a complete 'D' so it would have to be cut twice in order to defeat it - that would be two cuts through 20mm diameter hardened steel! The appearance from above is unchanged. Pricing is not being changed, yet.

The Torc Ground Anchor

We at Pragmasis developed the Torc ground anchor because we didn't want our motorcycles to be stolen and we thought the other products on the market were too difficult to install, gave poor security, or both! We now specialise in manufacturing and supplying high quality British made security products to protect valuable items.

This photo shows the new Torc Ground Anchor Series II with a Protector 16mm uncroppable chain. The Series II is tougher, easier to install, and cheaper than the highly praised Series I design.

It is Sold Secure Gold rated for motorcycles, bicycles, ATV's, caravans, cars and commercial equipment. It is the only ground anchor on the market that is Gold rated in all 6 categories! Many suppliers claim approval that is incorrect or that relates to some test that happened years ago, sometimes to a different design.
